It all started in 1979, when Ton Alberts and Max van Huut got the assignment from MBO/NMB Bank to design the new headquarters voor NMB Bank (later ING Bank HQ). The most important requirement was to design a flexible building. Because we knew that the future is ever changing, we made a design that allowed for a different use.

From a closed organization, Wonam / Zadelhoff transformed the building into a mixed-use building with apartments, restaurants and bars, designated themed areas and the Municipality of Amsterdam transformed three of the ten towers into the international school AICS.

Everything was done while keeping the soul of the original design intact. This special transformation from the first city monument in this part of the town, led to the Geurt Brinkgreve award of 2023 for transformations.
